Turbidity Sensor Module Kit

Water Quality Clarity Detection Analog/Digital Output

What is a Turbidity Sensor?

A turbidity sensor measures the cloudiness or clarity of water by detecting how much light is scattered by suspended particles.

More particles (mud, algae, impurities) higher turbidity Clear water low turbidity

Commonly used in water quality monitoring systems

Working Principle

  • The sensor contains:

    • Light source (IR LED)

    • Light detector (photodiode/transistor)

Process:

  • Light is emitted into water

  • Suspended particles scatter the light

  • Detector measures intensity of received light

Clear water more light reaches detector higher output Dirty water less light reaches detector lower output

    Module Components

    A typical kit includes:

    • Turbidity probe (waterproof sensor head)

    • Signal processing module (with comparator)

    • Connecting cable

    Pin Configuration (Module)

    • VCC 5V

    • GND Ground

    • AO Analog Output

    • DO Digital Output (threshold-based)

    Output Types

    1. Analog Output (AO)

    • Continuous voltage (04.5V approx.)

    • Used for precise turbidity measurement

    2. Digital Output (DO)

    • HIGH/LOW signal

    • Triggered when turbidity crosses set thresement Range

      • Turbidity Range: 0 1000 NTU (approx.) (NTU = Nephelometric Turbidity Units)

      Output Behavior

      Key Features

      • Real-time water clarity detection

      • Analog and digital output options

      • Waterproof probe

      • Adjustable sensitivity (via potentiometer)

      • Easy interface with Arduino and microcontrollers

      Technical Specifications

      • Operating Voltage: 5V DC

      • Current Consumption: ~30 mA

      • Response Time: < 500 ms 5C to 90C

      • Interface: Analog + Digital

      Applications

      • Water quality monitoring systems

      • Aquarium and fish tank monitoring

      • Drinking water analysis

      • Smart irrigation systems

      Arduino Connection

      • VCC 5V

      • GND GND

      • AO A0 (analog pin)

      Working with Arduino

      • Read analog value using analogRead()

      • Convert voltage to turbidity using calibration formula

      Example concept:

      • Higher voltage cleaner water

      • Lower voltage more turbidity

      Advantages

      • Simple and low-cost

      • Dual output modes (analog + digital)

      toring

      Limitations

      • Requires calibration for accurate NTU values

      • Sensitive to ambient light interference

      • Probe can get dirty over time

      • Not laboratory-grade accuracy

      Important Notes

      • Clean the sensor regularly for accurate readings

      • Avoid air bubbles on probe surface

      • Use shielding to reduce light interference

      • Calibrate using known turbidity samples
