SmartElex Rotation Sensor

Overview

The SmartElex Rotation Sensor is a module designed to detect rotational movement or angular position.

Depending on design, it typically uses:

• A rotary potentiometer (most common), or

• An incremental rotary encoder

In most SmartElex kits, it is a potentiometer-based analog rotation sensor used to measure angle/position, not speed.

Working Principle

1. Potentiometer-Based Rotation Sensing

Structure

• Consists of:

  • Resistive track

  • Sliding contact (wiper)

  • Rotating shaft

   

Operation

• As the shaft rotates:

  • The wiper moves along the resistive track

  • Output voltage changes proportionally
