Overview

The SmartElex RedBot Line Follower Sensor is an infrared (IR) reflectance-based detection module designed to:

  • Detect lines (typically black/white contrast) on a surface

  • Provide real-time position feedback for line-following robots

 

It is optimized for high-speed line tracking and accurate edge detection.

Working Principle

The sensor operates using infrared reflectance sensing:

1. IR Emission

  • An IR LED emits infrared light toward the surface

2. Reflection Behavior

  • White/light surface reflects more IR light

  • Black/dark surface absorbs IR light

 

3. Detection

  • A photodiode

    Converts reflected light into an electrical signal

4. Signal Processing

  • Signal is processed using:

    • Comparator or analog circuitry

  • Determines whether the surface is light or dark
