SmartElex Hall Sensor
Overview
The SmartElex Hall Sensor is a module based on the Hall effect, used to detect magnetic fields.
Detects:
Presence of a magnetic field
Strength (in analog versions)
Provides:
Digital and/or analog output
It is a non-contact sensor, widely used for position, speed, and proximity detection involving magnets.
Working Principle
Hall Effect
When a current flows through a conductor/semiconductor
And a magnetic field is applied perpendicular to it
A voltage is generated across the material (Hall voltage)
This voltage is proportional to the magnetic field strength.
Sensor Opent through sensing element
Magnetic field from external magnet interacts with it
Hall voltage is generated
Signal is:
Amplified
Processed
Output is provided as digital or analog signal
Output Types
Digital Output (Most Common)
HIGH / LOW signal
Triggered when magnetic field exceeds threshold
Acts like a magnetic switch
Analog Output (Some Versions)
Continuous voltage proportional to magnetic field strength
Electrical Characteristics
Operating voltage: 3.3V to 5V
Low power consumption
TTL-compatible outputs
Core Components
Hall effect sensor IC
Comparator (f>
Indicator LED
Resistors and signal conditioning circuit
Detection Characteristics
Magnetic Field Detection
Detects:
North or South pole (depending on sensor type)
Trigger distance depends on:
Magnet strength
Sensor sensitivity
Response Time
Very fast (microseconds range)
Suitable for high-speed detection
Types of Hall Sensors
Digital (Switch Type)
ON/OFF output
Used for:
Presence detection
Linear (Analog Type)
Measures field strength
Output varies continuously
Latching Type
Changes state with magnetic polarity
Retains stat
Operating Behavior
Magnetic Detection
Magnet near sensor output changes
Magnet removed output returns (or stays, depending on type)
Direction Sensitivity
Some sensors detect:
Only one pole
Both poles differently
Environmental Characteristics
Stable over wide temperature range
Not affected by:
Dust
Light
Physical contact
Limitations
Requires external magnet
Detection range is limited (few mm to cm)
Sensitive to:
Strong external magnetic interference
Cannot measure:
Exact distance (only field presence/strength)
p>VCC Power supply
GND Ground
OUT Digital/analog output
Functional Role
The module acts as a:
Magnetic field detector
Non-contact switch
Position and speed sensing device
Summary
