LEAP Hand — 16-DOF Anthropomorphic Dexterous Robotic Hand

šŸ¤– The end-effector that defines what a robot arm can actually do — now available in India, exclusively through RoboTechMinds.

⭐ EXCLUSIVELY AVAILABLE ON ROBOTECHMINDS.COM — RoboTechMinds is the exclusive Indian source for this research-grade dexterous hand platform, assembled, calibrated and supported locally with GST invoicing. It is not stocked or sold by any other electronics retailer in India.

šŸ”¬ Overview

The LEAP Hand is a low-cost, high-performance, anthropomorphic dexterous robotic hand developed at Carnegie Mellon University and open-sourced to democratise access to dexterous-manipulation research. With 16 directly actuated degrees of freedom across four fingers, it delivers human-like grasping and in-hand manipulation at roughly one-tenth the cost of comparable commercial research hands — putting serious dexterous manipulation, imitation learning and humanoid end-effector development within reach of Indian institutions and deep-tech teams for the first time.

Robotics has moved from seeing to feeling: after vision, depth and mobility, contact-rich dexterous manipulation is the defining frontier of Physical AI in 2026. The LEAP Hand is the platform the global research community has standardised on to get there — and it integrates directly with modern Vision-Language-Action (VLA) and imitation-learning pipelines.

⭐ Why the LEAP Hand

  • 16 DOF, directly actuated — full finger mobility including a universal abduction-adduction MCP joint for genuinely dexterous, human-like grasps.

  • Research-grade at a fraction of the cost — roughly 10Ɨ more affordable than comparable commercial research hands, without compromising DOF or precision.

  • Fully open-source & reproducible — complete CAD, URDF, simulation environments (Isaac Gym / MuJoCo) and Python / ROS / C++ APIs. No black box — ideal for publications and teaching.

  • Universal arm mounting — community adapters for Franka, UR5 and other arms; pairs directly with LeRobot / SO-ARM platforms already available on RoboTechMinds.

  • Tactile-ready — fingertips accept vision-based tactile sensors (DIGIT / GelSight) for vision-tactile manipulation and VTLA research.

🧩 Detailed Technical Information

Actuation architecture. Every joint is driven directly by a smart serial-bus servo with closed-loop position, velocity and current feedback and a contactless magnetic encoder. This direct-drive design eliminates the maintenance fragility and calibration drift of tendon-driven hands, giving precise, repeatable, backlash-free joint control that holds up to the tens of thousands of grasps required to train a manipulation policy.

Control modes. Each joint supports position, velocity and current (torque) control. A well-documented Python API drives high-level grasp and in-hand manipulation; a ROS driver handles system integration; and C++ enables real-time control loops.

Software & sim-to-real. The open-source URDF and Isaac Gym / MuJoCo simulation environments let teams train policies in simulation and transfer them to the physical hand, and the platform plugs into modern imitation-learning stacks (LeRobot and similar) for data collection and policy deployment.

Integration & expansion. The hand mounts on standard robot-arm flanges via adapters and pairs natively with the LeRobot SO-ARM platforms sold by RoboTechMinds. Fingertips accept vision-based tactile sensors, enabling full Vision-Tactile-Language-Action (VTLA) research — the 2026 frontier of contact-rich manipulation.

šŸŽÆ Applications

  • Dexterous manipulation research — grasping, in-hand re-orientation, contact-rich assembly and deformable-object handling.

  • Imitation learning & VLA / VTLA — teleoperated data collection and policy training for foundation-model robotics.

  • Humanoid end-effector development — a credible, affordable hand for indigenous humanoid platforms.

  • Advanced engineering education — a reproducible, open platform for university robotics, AI and mechatronics labs.

  • Corporate, defence & aerospace R&D — prototyping dexterous automation and manipulation systems.

šŸ›ļø Who It Is For

Research institutions and university robotics / AI labs, funded deep-tech robotics and humanoid startups, and corporate, defence and aerospace R&D teams building the next generation of manipulation and Physical AI systems. Supplied with institutional (college / research / GeM) procurement support.

šŸ’Ž High-Value Intellectual Product

This is a high-value intellectual-property product — a research-grade dexterous-manipulation platform, not a commodity component. RoboTechMinds sources the precision components, assembles and calibrates each hand, validates it against the reference design, and backs it with documentation, integration guidance and local technical support. The value is in the engineering, localisation, assurance and know-how delivered with every unit.

šŸ“¦ Made to Order — Imported / Produced on Confirmed Order Only

This product is imported and produced strictly against a confirmed order. It is not held in ready stock. Each unit is built, assembled and calibrated to order to ensure genuine components and full quality validation.

Estimated dispatch: 6–10 weeks from receipt of a confirmed purchase order and advance payment (timeline is configuration-dependent and governed by component import lead times; exact dispatch is confirmed in writing at the time of order).
