E18-D80NK Infrared Sensor Module
Overview
The E18-D80NK Infrared Sensor Module is a photoelectric proximity sensor used to detect objects without physical contact.
It is widely used in:
Robotics (obstacle avoidance)
Automation systems
Object detection systems
Working Principle
The sensor emits infrared (IR) light
When an object comes in front light reflects back
The receiver detects this reflection
Output changes accordingly
This is called a diffuse reflective photoelectric sensor
Infographic Summary
a Detects: Objects Voltage: 5V DC Range: 380 cm Output: Digital (NPN) Type: IR Reflective Adjustable distance
Pin Configuration
E18-D80NK Red VCC (5V) -25C to 55C
Key Features
Long detection range (up to 80 cm)
Adjustable sensitivity (via screw)
Fast response
Easy to mount cylindrical design
Low cost and reliable
Less affected by ambient light
Working Logic
Condition | Output |
No object | LOW |
Object detected | HIGH |
(May vary depending on wiring and module type)
Applications
Robot obstacle avoidance
Automatic door systems
Object counting systems
Conveyor belt detection
Parking sensors (basic)
ESP32 / ESP8266
Raspberry Pi
Connect output to a digital input pin
Important Notes
Detection depends on object color & surface
Not good for transparent objects (glass, water)
Requires proper alignment for best results
High current compared to small IR modules
Real-world tip:
White objects reflect better longer detection range
