Arduino Portenta CAT.M1/NB IoT GNSS Shield - ASX00027
What It Is
The Portenta CAT.M1/NB IoT GNSS Shield (ASX00027) is an Arduino expansion board (shield) that adds cellular IoT connectivity (Cat.M1/NB-IoT) and global positioning (GNSS) to compatible Arduino boards, especially the Portenta lineup.
Built around the Thales Cinterion TX62 wireless module low-power, highly efficient IoT connectivity.
Works with Arduino Portenta boards and also MKR form-factor boards.
Ideal for remote & wide-area tracking, monitoring systems, smart city endpoints, agriculture IoT, and industrial applications.

This shield turns an Arduino into a connected global tracker that can: Measure location (GNSS) worldwide; Connect sensors/data to the cloud via cellular IoT networks; Run secure internet services using embedded IP stack; Fit in low-power remote deployments.
How It Works
IoT applications like sensor telemetry.
Can send data securely using MQTT, HTTP, FTP, etc.
Option to use eSIM for flexible carrier provisioning.
Use Cases: Fleet & asset tracking Environmental & agricultural sensors Utilities monitoring (water/gas meters) Smart city applications (parking, lighting, signage)
GNSS Positioning
Integrated support for multiple GNSS constellations:GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou gives better accuracy & reliability worldwide.Use GNSS data (lat/lon/time/satellites) in your Arduino sketches for real-time location or geofencing.
Software & Programming
Compatible with the Arduino IDE or Arduino Pro tools.
Libraries for handling cellular connectivity
Plug-in, power up, and begin coding no separate power supply needed (powered from the Portenta host).
Typical Projects
Remote sensor node reporting data to cloud GPS tracker sending periodic location updates MQTT sensor network over NB-IoT Smart agriculture telemetry Industrial equipment monitoring
Notes & Tips
Some users report that under certain carrier restrictions LTE Cat.M1 connections may fallback to NB-IoT ensure your network supports Cat.M1 if needed. Always chec
